
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday assured Iran of cooperation in efforts to track down the perpetrators of the recent suicide attack in Sistan-Baluchestan.
Talking to the visiting Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Muhammad Najjar, Prime Minister Gilani also offered greater coordination between security agencies of the two countries to avoid misunderstandings. He said that terrorist attacks should in no way impact adversely on bilateral relations.
Mr Gilani expressed the hope that Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline and other bilateral projects would commence on time.
Expressing condolences to the government and people of Iran over the loss of lives in the attack, the prime minister reiterated that the elements involved in the crime would be punished.
Stressing the need for enhanced intelligence sharing, Mr Gilani recalled that Pakistan had in the past handed over to Iran several criminals, adding that the two countries faced common challenges like terrorism.
He praised $300 million donation by Iran at the Friends of Democratic Pakistan meeting in Tokyo and said Islamabad deeply valued its close ties with Tehran.
The prime minister said the recent launch of train service between the two countries would enhance regional ties.
The Iranian interior minister thanked the prime minister for offering to help in tracking down the terrorists.
